Interventional Radiology

RIA interventional radiologists are highly specialized in the performance of image guided procedures.

Interventional radiologists specialize in diagnostic and therapeutic minimally invasive procedures. These radiologists have completed additional fellowship training in interventional radiology after their radiology residency at some of the most prestigious institutions in the country.

Interventional radiologists use image guidance (i.e. x-ray, CT scan, or ultrasound) to place small catheters (very thin tubes), needles, and other devices into targeted areas of the body. They may then place something in the body, such as a stent or filter, or remove something, such as abnormal fluid or blood clots. These procedures are often performed instead of surgical procedures, with similar success rates, less risk, and less down time.
